Russian missiles hit a passenger train at a railway station in eastern Ukraine on Wednesday, killing at least 22 people and injuring 50 or more people.

In a video address to the UN Security Council, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the missiles hit the service in Chaplin, a town of about 3,500 people about 93 miles west of Donetsk.

Four wagons were on fire, he said.

According to Zelensky, Russia attacked a railway station in the village of Chaplyne in August. 24, killing at least 15 people on the spot and injuring 50 or more.

Ukraine marked Independence Day on Wednesday, and Zelenskiy warned in advance that Russia might try to disrupt the celebrations.

This happened when Boris Johnson visited Kyiv on the occasion of the country’s Independence Day.

In a message later posted on the Telegram messaging app, Zelenskyi revised the death toll to 15, saying: “There are 22 dead at the moment, 5 of them burned in the car.”

He said 1 of those killed was an 13-year-old boy whose house was destroyed by a Russian missile.

Zelenskyy added: “Search and rescue operations at the station are continuing. We will certainly make the occupiers answer for everything they have done. And we will certainly throw the invaders out of our country.”

Russia has repeatedly denied that its forces are targeting civilian targets.

April, at least 56 people died when Russian missiles hit a train station in the city of Kramatorsk.
