Harmony uses the RaptorQ fountain code to tackle these two problems. Each message is encoded into the symbols, and the symbols are sent over the wire until the receiver confirms that the message has been successfully resolved by using the symbols it received. Unlike the use of constant — rate codes such as Reed-Solomon, where the transmission fails after the symbols are exhausted, the fountain code allows infinite, full-time production and the use of coding symbols.
