Pure fluff with no science. How about we take a cursory look at the graphic you provided (clearly you didn’t even do that before going on your rant about white male privilege). Considering I have no idea how they could possibly filter out “questioning someone’s skills because their skills sucked” vs. “questioning them because of their race/gender,” I’ll go with the results that you reported (remember, I’m using your data, strangely).
The graphic clearly puts questioning white males “above average” on every category (except math … where being white still got you more questions than Hispanic or Indian). The crux of this article talking about “cultural fit” being questioned on “gut” or “unconscious bias” is clearly 100% refuted (by your own data! Amazing!). Blacks, Asians, and Indians are NEVER questioned based on cultural fit. White males? They are the ONLY ones questioned except for Hispanics. Wow, just wow.
Yet, you have the nerve to write this retarded line: ““I noticed there are a lot of white candidates in the pipeline, but are they ‘qualified’?” — said no organization, ever.” Are you kidding me?! If that were remotely true, then white would be at 0% on every single category, not way up above average. Just eye-balling the chart makes it look like the correct sentiment would be: ““I noticed there are a lot of Indian Female candidates in the pipeline, but are they ‘qualified’?” — said no organization, ever.”
Having said that, I really don’t believe in any of these results. Teasing apart everything is way too complicated. In fact, real life experience (with hiring committees) has taught us that being white male gets you by far the toughest scrutiny. The applicant pool for this group is the largest and diversity initiatives will push unqualified applicants way up the list for the sake of diversity, not quality. For every case study you have of a minority being unfairly questioned, I have 3 of them getting pushed through without question.
I’m sorry for being so aggressive, but I’m sick of hearing this. Apparently, now there is data to prove that this idea is completely bogus. Stop writing about how minorities are unfairly held down in application processes. Experience shows us it isn’t true, and now science does as well.
