5 Useful Websites for Digital Nomads to Work, Dine and Especially Socialize

I love traveling all by myself. I always do. Even if I don’t know anyone living there or the language spoken there, traveling alone always gives me unforgettably wonderful and meaningful experiences. However, it doesn’t mean I don’t like any interactions with people or meeting new folks. I DO LOVE THESE THINGS!
Some of my friends think that I’m brave enough to jump into a totally unfamiliar environment, but there is a reason why I don’t hesitate to go to anywhere by myself, because I know that I can make friends wherever I go so easily, with a help of wonderful technology that someone made!
Here are my TOP 5 websites that I use when I’m on the road to find 1.) Places to work, 2.) Places to eat and 3.) Places to socialize.
1.) Places to work
workfrom.co

This has been really useful for me to find the cafes or coworking spaces that have WiFi. The UI of this website is working like Airbnb’s. You just type the city you are in, and it shows you the list of places where you can work with your laptop. The good part of this website is that you can know the availability of power outlets before popping into the place so that you don’t have to be disappointed and finish your coffee quickly to roam in town again in search of another place that has outlets.
2.) Places to eat
Happy Cow

Happy Cow is a website made for vegetarians/vegans to look up the restaurants and cafes that have veggie options. The reason why I recommend this website is not only because I’m vegetarian, but also for another good reason. If you try to look up vegetarian restaurant, you’ll likely to find independent, artisanal, crafty and hip restaurant that the local people find it’s “cool”. Even if you’re not vegetarian or vegan, go support small businesses! It almost works the same as workfrom.co that I mentioned above.
3.) Places to socialize
Search is Back!

This is a simple search engine to find people/events/posts&shares/photos on Facebook. It is not officially distributed by Facebook, but it’s been working incredibly useful for me to find some cool local events that even most of the local people wouldn’t know unless they’re in a cool crowd. What I always do is, 1.) go to EVENTS search, and 2.) just type the location where I’m in. then, the searching page will be redirected to the actual FB page. If I find anything that sounds interesting to me, I click it and save as interested on my Facebook.
Meetup

Needless to say, this is the biggest platform to find meetups that are happening in your town if you’re in a relatively big city. The number of listing are tremendous! You can find so many English speaking events, so it’s a really good way to make friends for expats who don’t speak local language. I usually opt to use Meetup to find events, but there are cases that I can’t find much events on Meetup, especially when I’m staying in a small city where less international people reside. In that case, you can combine Search is Back! to find more local ones.
mapfest.io

With this website, you can search the festivals that are going on in Europe/North&South America/Oceania/Australia during the date you’ve entered in the search engine. I usually use it as one of the references when deciding the place(city) to go. When I find something looks good, I consider to visit the city, because I know that there is something going on. It’s kind of an insurance for your joy. Even if you ended up not enjoying the city itself, you’ll for sure have fun in one of these festivals!
All in all, treasure every encounter on the road!
I hope you find these tips useful! Be open-minded and friendly, so that you’ll naturally find good people to have a good time :)
