The Reason Why I Relocate to Leipzig from Berlin

OK, so it has only been a few month since I wrote the article about 3 reasons why I moved to Berlin, but now I’m moving to Leipzig in July!

It was a total coincidence. I just visited Leipzig for work&travel purpose(and I decided the destination by coin tossing), and fell in love with the city. I wasn’t even thinking to relocate myself over there, but as soon as I arrived at the central station, I felt something good will happen.

BUT, I didn’t decide to move to Leipzig just by my intuition. There are several reasons why I made that decision, and these might sound attractive for those who are thinking to move to Germany . I summed them up into 3 reasons;

A lot of cultural things going on

Leipzig is known as one of the coolest cities in Germany for having emerging art&music scenes. Although, seems like you have to know the right people to see the scene more in deep as they are trying really hard to protect the community being destroyed by gentrification that has already been taken in other cities like Berlin. You should watch this documentary by i-D if you want to know more about this.

2.The rent is cheap (and easier to find a flat compare to Berlin)

It took me only 5 days to find a flat in Leipzig, and it was so easy considering I had no replies from anyone in Berlin when I was asking around for a flat. I think I was quite lucky to be able to find one so easily. I could rent a 1 room studio(27m²) for just 270 EUR including everything; gas, water, internet. I can’t guarantee you that everyone can find a place so easily, but it’s definitely easier than Berlin, and that’s what locals also say.

3.Has a good community vibes

The biggest part of the reason why I brought myself to Leipzig is people. I like the size of the city. It’s not too big, but not too small. You can have both of good closed community vibes and opportunities to meet new people. Leipzig is often described as “Next Berlin”, but I felt Leipzig wouldn’t be like that, because the tie between people is quite strong, and the whole city is creating the different type of uniqueness from Berlin. I don’t really know how to describe it, but I got the sense that I will love there.
