For the Love of Love

I was reassured by a best-friend I love,
That I’ll never cease to fall in love, that
I’ll find magic, and hear violins,
And feel the flutter every time I look.

He asserted that I’ll suspend my doubts,
And get swept off my feet,
On a journey of love and faith,
Just like I had a few times before.

Then why does it feel like cynicism has taken over,
And realism is clouding the dreamer within?
Have the realities of my past and the present of a few around me,
Finally revealed those assertions to be mere fairy tales?

Is she still here, somewhere beneath,
The girl who believed love exists
That there is a man with love in his heart,
looking forward to the day he’ll find her,
and sweep her off her feet.

Or is she busy laying bricks around her,
Hardening her core, and cushioning her soul?
Her future is invisible and past doesn’t let her forget,
That dreams are great and comforting,
But these tinted glasses in front of her eyes,
Were painted blue for a reason.

There's no greater satisfaction or joy than putting feelings into words to read and feel more intensely later.
