Venus, Cupid, Folly, and Time

A tragic love

Bronzino. An Allegory with Venus and Cupid. circa 1545, The National Art Gallery, London

Oh alas!
Cupid’s arrow flew awry
Warped by Time’s delay
Folly’s awful luck!

Sweet Venus awaken!
Such long nights without your grace
An impossible favor I beseech
Must Folly roam unchecked?

Pleasure and Play yearn to dance
In the flesh one day
But woe!
His arrow’s landed astray

Oh Venus, please!
Alter space and time
My soul craves
Our hearts intertwined
