Now that major organizational decisions have been made, the association is ready to step up its activities.

Six months have passed since the creation of the association, and we have spent this time finding the best ways to grow out Waves Technologies (the Waves ecosystem) and deciding on the most viable development strategies.

Defining the Waves Association as a totally decentralized and democratic organization from the ground up required that we maintain a healthy balance between legal requirements and member sovereignty. It was vital for us to make sure that opinions of all members are taken into account.

At a recent general meeting, major decisions were finalized, such as defining areas of the association’s operations and forming working groups that will be responsible for each of three main areas of activities.

Every working group has an elected head, a specific area of responsibility and targets that it aims to achieve. Most decisions regulating working group operations are made by the association’s general meeting.

The working groups enjoy sufficient freedom in organizing their operations as long as their activities are in line with their areas of responsibility and the association’s goals. Although the working groups will operate with a great deal of autonomy, their activities will be transparent for all members of the association.

Research & Development (R&D)

Activities in the R&D area will be led and coordinated by a respective working group with Prof. Dr. Marc Jansen from the Ruhr West University of Applied Sciences at the helm.

The Waves Association aims to become a major center of tech expertise, and the R&D group’s members will be primarily focused on research into blockchain and its various real-world applications. Researching what areas are most crucial for blockchain to thrive will allow Waves Tech to expand into the most vital directions first.

This working group will also initiate projects that the Waves community’s members will be invited to join. Finally, the R&D working group will be in charge of tech assessment of grant applications.

Funding and grants

One of the association’s major goals is supporting innovation within the Waves ecosystem. Therefore, the funding and grants working group, headed by Inal Kardanov, will become a vital driving force for the association’s activities.

The Waves Association expects to release a substantial number of grants to developers, and this working group will be in the center of this process.

It will announce open calls for grants, collect and process applications and, taking into account tech assessment by the R&D working group, facilitate decisions on issuing grants.

Membership

Another important goal of the association is becoming a major center of blockchain competence that will foster the development of the entire Waves ecosystem. And this can only be achieved by attracting the community’s most accomplished members to share their experience, expertise and insights. This job will largely be run by the membership working group, headed by Emily de Dios.

Overall, the membership working group will be in charge of processing all community initiatives and proposals that don’t fall into the areas managed by the other two working groups. We are opened to all kinds of suggestions and initiatives, for which the membership group will be the go-to place.

All set to move on

With organizational issues out of the way, the Waves Association is now ready to begin active operation. Among our immediate plans is achieving maximum transparency and democracy in governance and decision-making processes, using Waves technologies to that end.

Since we are all passionate about blockchain, it would be cool to use blockchain-based tools in the association’s operations. The association’s governance model and management tools will be discussed further, and there will be news soon.

In regards to R&D, the main focus of the association will be on a technological infrastructure required for the blockchain industry to grow past its current challenges and limitations. We believe that creating a unified ecosystem featuring cross-chain communication, multi-assetization and cumulative inter-chain functionality is our major task ahead. The development of Gravity Technologies (the Gravity ecosystem) will take a central position in this process.

Our grant program will be primarily focused on projects that will foster mass adoption of blockchain-based solutions.

Finally, we are working towards more members joining the association. By combining efforts, we will speed up mass adoption of blockchain-based technologies and solutions. And we hope to see the first results over the coming months.

Synergy goes a long way, especially when it comes to bridging various blockchains and making dApps work across all of them. We invite you to take part in this process and contribute alongside other experts to our common goal. Let’s work on the Web 3.0 future together!
