But the book isn’t really about A Live One.
Structuring A LIVE ONE

The book also isn’t about ‘jam bands,’ a topic I have little interest in. I know, I know, Phish is a jam band— but their relationship to that culture has always been a little uneasy. There’s a brief passage about the HORDE tour, which was longer in the first draft, but that’s it. Phish’s connection to the Dead is more interesting to me than their connection to, say, Umphrey’s McGee, because culturally there’s nothing to say about UM, whereas the way the 60s and 70s turned into the 80s and 90s is still fascinating (and complicated, and depressing).
