My love letter (and goodbye?) to Austin

Joah this post really hits home and unfortunately, unless you’re a minority or black founder, most people won’t get it. Now, there’s no way anyone that responds here, including me, can suggest what you should do. You probably already know the answer. What I do know is that even if you move, the fight won’t be any easier. Don’t use it as a crutch…just keep plugging away. Maybe access to capital gets easier, but other factors will still be in the way. I love your passion and enthusiasm, but you have to consider all things when thinking about this move as I’m sure you’re struggling with now. Selfishly, I wish you would stay in Austin. I’m actually in Houston and to a lesser extent wondering if Houston is even the right place for certain types of startups. My eyes are on Austin, but the goal is to make the right decision for your startup to survive and then to thrive. Who provides the best ecosystem? What stage you’re at has a lot to do with it.

I don’t know you, but would love the chance to catch up. I admire what you’ve done up to this point and it seems obvious you’ll figure out the right formula to come out smelling like roses on the other side. What can I do to help? No like seriously. Wayne Lopez Around for SXSW?
