The Russians Really Should Not Be Attacking French and Italian Cuisine
Let’s see what the Kremlin can do with Kermit
Former Russian President and Putin crony Dmitri Medvedev disparaged French, German and Italian leaders as, “European connoisseurs of frogs, liverwurst and pasta.”
Seriously, Russia wants to compare its grub to French and Italian food?!?! Maybe he has a point with German cuisine.
But if you’re going to attack the French and Italians, their food probably isn’t a good place to start. I’m not saying that Russian food is bad, if you’re into goulash or borsht. But it is an acquired taste. More of an exotic specialty cuisine.
It’s okay. But you can find Italian or French food in every corner of the globe. No matter how Podunk the town, you’ll find an Italian restaurant. If you travel the world, you find pasta or pizza in remote villages. And, French restaurants are among the best and most popular in every major city in the world.
Russian grub, on the other hand, hasn’t quite taken off in the same way. You must search for Russian restaurants. They are in nooks and crannies. They are difficult to find. And maybe there is a reason why.
Medvedev insults the French for eating frogs. That’s actually a testament to how damn good their cuisine is. They can turn a swamp creature into a delicacy. That’s not easy. It’s an art form. Let’s see what the Kremlin can do with Kermit. Good luck.
Russian propaganda is typically over the top and absurd. But Russians attacking the Italians and French on cuisine? Well, that takes the soufflé.
