Driving a Tractor + Working in a Mine + Other Unlikely Jobs That Made Me A Better Entrepreneur
I had the pleasure of being interviewed by Andrew Warner of Mixergy and Carlos Espinal of The Seedcamp Series. And these guys really did their research. Thanks to their interview talents, they got some great stories out of me. Namely, how my forays into gold mining and cotton farming made me a better businessman. Check out the interviews below.
On growing up on a cotton farm in the Mississippi Delta:
“Every time I get tired or resentful of the amount of work I have to do, I say ‘Well at least I’m not driving a tractor back and forth in the Delta sun.’”
On gold mining in Nicaragua:
“Every two weeks, I would get out $50,000 of cash in Nicaraguan money, which would be this huge box of money, and sleep with it under my bed. I would show up the airport and they’d ask, ‘Senor Bunker, where’s the gold?’ It was pretty terrifying. So, starting my own internet company seemed very low risk compared to that.”
