“So *where* do you get your protein?”
If you are vegan, you have likely been asked this many times, you’ve likely expounded on this mythful worry of non-vegans, and you have likely memed it out a few times on social media.
Guess what, I will contend you’ve likely repeated the most basic mistake that mirrors the same mistake you feel you are being asked, over and over. I have been hearing this misconception, both question and answer, for years.

It is time to change the narrative to the more intuitive and correct angle. Look at the sentence: “Where do you get your protein from?”. The “where” is the pivotal point of the question because that is how the status quo wants you to perceive it. It is a marketeer’s dream to have the responsibility for delivering this supposedly all-mighty substance to you. They giggle when they know you run out to the store trying to ensure you get enough protein, or that you grab all the overly-processed powders that somehow we did not have during the millions of years of evolution that led us here to today’s disconnected world.
No, reshape the question to: “Where do you get your protein?”. The answer lies within you. Just as the early Christian church feared the gnostics because these upstarts knew the answers were found within each of us, so to the marketeers fear this simple truth:
Your body manufactures your protein, period. Not a drop of the active protein within your body comes from any animal product. Each cell makes its required protein from constituent amino acids. This is gnostic-level shit. Now that you know, why hurt innocent animals? /Mic dropped.
Once you see this fundamental truth, reading the Wikipedia entry for protein becomes an uncomfortable WTF. Clearly the marketeer’s perspective is interwoven into that narrative to avoid the reality of our body’s basic functioning, and done in a way to further incite you to the oh-so-supermarket. There is a scant line or two that obliquely mentions that your body actually builds protein from amino acids but apart from that, nothing.
Now that you can go all gnostic on that protein-shit, have at it with a newfound vision, and you will see the misdirection in all its glory, everywhere you look.
So, simply eat well, from a varied organic whole-food, plant-based kitchen and you will never ever worry about this trivial question again.
