Several popular farmers’ schemes have been introduced in India to support agricultural development, improve farmers’ livelihoods, and ensure food security.

Here are some of the notable ones:

  1. Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN): Launched in 2019, PM-KISAN provides direct income support of ₹6,000 per year to small and marginal farmers in three equal installments. The amount is directly transferred to the bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries.
  2. Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY): PMFBY is a crop insurance scheme that provides financial support to farmers in case of crop loss due to natural calamities, pests, or diseases. The premium rates are subsidized, and claims are settled directly into the bank accounts of farmers.
  3. Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY): PMKSY aims to improve water use efficiency in agriculture by promoting efficient irrigation technologies, water harvesting, and conservation practices. It includes components like Har Khet Ko Pani (Per Drop More Crop) and Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP).
  4. Soil Health Card Scheme: Under this scheme, soil health cards are provided to farmers, containing information about the nutrient status of their soil and recommendations for appropriate fertilizers and crops to improve soil health and productivity.
  5. National Agriculture Market (eNAM): eNAM is an online trading platform that connects agricultural produce markets across India, allowing farmers to discover better prices for their produce through transparent and competitive online bidding.
  6. Kisan Credit Card (KCC) Scheme: The KCC scheme provides farmers with access to timely and adequate credit for their agricultural and allied activities. It aims to meet the short-term credit requirements of farmers for crop production and post-harvest expenses.
  7. Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY): RKVY is a centrally sponsored scheme that provides financial assistance to states for various agriculture-related activities such as infrastructure development, crop diversification, and promoting agribusiness.

These schemes play a crucial role in supporting farmers and enhancing agricultural productivity and sustainability in India. They address various aspects of agriculture, including income support, risk mitigation, irrigation, soil health, market access, and credit availability, thereby contributing to the overall welfare of farmers and the agricultural sector.
