“News Flash”, reducing the distribution of articles disputed by fact-checkers doesn’t hold the perpetrators of fake news liable for their actions. What you’re essentially stating is that Facebook is going to continue to allow fake news to flourish, just with some stupid label.

Here’s a clear example, the right wing media publication The Gateway Pundit is still operating on Facebook today, despite being caught red handed spreading fake news stories on a still almost daily basis. To make matters worse, much of the news they spread is obviously intended to incite hatred, intolerance, and ultimately violence. Here’s The Gatewaye Pundit’s page on Facebook, still there today: https://www.facebook.com/gatewaypundit

One of the fake stories they published about the Las Vegas tragedy resulted in an innocent man Geary Danley being faced with repeated death threats. Here’s the actual story they spread, tried to delete, but remains on Archive.org: https://archive.fo/tzrwf

What you’re essentially saying is that the perpetrators of fake news, inexcusable harassment, incitement of violence, and who work solely to manipulate the public is totally acceptable for the Facebook platform.

Facebook literally has millions of people who believe these fake stories are true, a serious cause for concern.

For the record, I moderate for Google+, and we have a zero tolerance policy for the perpetrators of fake news, harassment, and those who incite hatred. When these accounts are reported by us, they’re done for!

All being said, your remedies for this situation are disgraceful! Any media outlet, journalist, of individual who purposely spreads false news, stories with the intent to incite hatred, intolerance, political division, and violence, all have no place on social media, including Facebook.

The Gateway Pundit must go! Allowing the perpetrators of misinformation to continue unabated on your platform is unacceptable.

Mark my words, if this continues, I will do everything in my power to discredit your platform and hold Facebook to account for its actions. You’re not above the law. You have a moral responsibility to protect your users, and you’ve clearly failed to do so.
