We’re Home!
Colfax, California
It took took about 12 hours to move everything that Wife Re and I own from Lincoln to Colfax. Somehow, her brother managed to fit literally EVERYTHING into 3 pickup truck beds. Bed, couch, dresser…everything. It was quite a feat.
And then the next day, all unpacking and a celebratory BBQ with family (and Nolan, but whatever). Re’s parents were nice enough to get us a new barbecue as a house warming gift, and my parents bought a bunch of food. For the first time since moving out of my room in my parent’s place, I have enough space to have guests over, a garage, and big ol’ home to call my own. Damn, this is cool.
Not everything is perfect. We’ve got a little bit of dry rot on the back side of the house. Penny, our precious puppy, is readjusting to having no grass to pee on so we have to watch her like a hawk. The toilet water is always sitting at a different level after flushing and it’s bothering me. One of the smoke alarms is just hanging from the vaulted ceiling and I don’t have a chair tall enough to be able to put it back in its place.
Oh, and there’s no hot water. The gas was shut off, I’m not 100% sure who to call, and the people I can think to call have been closed all weekend. So far, 4 cold showers. Another one Monday morning and I am really hoping it’s my last.
The pros far outweigh the cons. Our cat, Molly, has never been so happy and had so much room. Penny is just glad we took her with us. Wife Re is approximately 528928374x less anxious because she is in a quiet neighborhood, leaving the hustle and bustle of the previous busy street corner unit we had before. And me — I feel accomplished as shit.
