30-Days On Medium
What I’ve found after 30-days on Medium.
It’s been a month, well 39-days, since my first submission on Medium. I have posted eleven pieces of writing in total so far, this will be the twelfth, as well as a few responses and claps on the content other members have published.
Yes, I could have written more, interacted further with other users and read a few extra articles, but, in the short period of time that has passed since that first post — Trouble Getting Started? — I have noticed some pretty interesting changes in my day to day life.
A New Perspective
Deciding to create a profile here on Medium, as well as populate that profile with the various genres of writing that I have been exploring and experimenting with, has triggered different aspects of my attention throughout my daily routines.
Some of the major changes that have occurred are as follows:
1. An Increase in Reading — I have always enjoyed reading though there was no real consistency or routine to how often I would read. I would go through phases of reading, from not being able to put a book down and reading whenever I had a minute of free time to barely lifting a book. Now that I have started to write on this platform my love for reading has returned. My rekindled enjoyment of reading has not only been confined to books either, having easy access to the Medium application via smart phone, I find myself reading articles and content at any chance I get, wherever I may be and on a wide range of various subjects and topics.
2. An Attention to Detail — As I strive to increase the number of articles I produce each month and improve on technique, my attention to detail has become sharper. In the past I would simply read a book or an article, absorb the information, (or as much of it as possible), then move on. Now, not only do I read the words that have been written but I find myself studying how they have been presented, the use and frequency of certain words, how often the writer begins a new paragraph and what can be learned from this piece of writing. Examining in depth each piece read and looking for ideas to use in my next piece of writing.
3. An Increase in Awareness — Trying to come up with ideas on which to write about can be challenging. As mentioned in a previous article — Finding Creative Ideas — I have been listening and paying closer attention to what has been going on around me, taking the ear buds out, being in the moment, embracing my surroundings and of course, taking notes has helped me immensely in the expansion of my creativity.
These are just a few of the changes I have noticed since my writing journey has began and it has only been 39-days. I wonder what will have changed his time next month?
Writing = Growth
In the short period of time that I have been writing and contributing to the many articles here on Medium, albeit at a much lower level than the other writers, feelings of growth, change and maturity have become more apparent to me.
I feel that by writing and reading more my mind has expanded, creativity has increased and as mentioned above, a connection with the world around me as strengthened.
I have never felt better and I’m excited to see were this new-found adventure will take me.
How long have you been writing and how has it changed you as a person?
I hope you enjoyed this article, thanks for taking the time to read it, much appreciated. I aim to improve my writing with each article so I welcome any tips or advice.
Thank you.
