Had similar experience here too, not as the only designer per se, but the same situation that I need to live with the way they used to work where they probably don’t understand how a UX designer would be different from visual designer and how should they work with us.

Also, I read a book from Rosenfeld called “The User Experience Team of One”, which is really resonate with me too, and been helpful along the way.
