Like the others, I relate. Just wanted to add that I recently read how being told we’re “smart” or “gifted” or “a natural” when we’re young can push us into a fixed mindset. Like you mentioned, being intelligent becomes a part of our identity. The moment we’re actually challenged, we think we must not smart enough, and our identity crumbles. So, as adults, what we need to praise any and all children for is the effort/work they put in. This is more likely to help them develop a growth mindset — that hard work and learning will make anyone better/smarter/stronger.
