E Studio Storyboard Iteration 1

First Scenario
The context for this scenario is that the user has to register to self-tour CMU before they arrive on campus (Walking to the Sky) to start the tour. I chose Walking to the Sky because it is a location in an open space so there is no difficulty in getting into buildings such as Warner Hall on weekends when it is usually locked. Once they arrive at the starting location, they are prompted to start the tour by entering a confirmation code provided from the registration process that activates the phone as a virtual ID card which allows them to get access to general buildings in case it is locked as well as opt in for campus meals. Only select spaces are available to reach through card access for security measures. After the phone is activated, the user is given route options to choose from based on college, major, and interests.
Once the tour starts, the app will prompt the navigation route, which will have instructions on the top and a street view with arrows telling which direction to walk. Audio cues will also be given occasionally to indicate when to turn to minimize attention to the app. Users will also be given the opportunity to skip places on the tour that they are not interested in.
Once the app directs the user to enter a space, if it requires card access, the user scans the phone and enters the space.

Second Scenario
My second scenario illustrates a situation where the user is lost and trying to find the way out or to another location. There will be codes around different locations in buildings. These codes can do two things: it can give you a virtual tour and explanation of the scanned location or it can lead you to your next destination. Once the user scans the code, they can tell the app to prompt them to find their way out. The app will enter the navigation mode with directions on top, audio cues, and a 3D rendering of the space to help lead the user out.
Takeaways from Critique
- The card access idea brought up some security concerns as well as purpose concerns. If the building not open to general access, do users really need to enter that building?
- Where and how can I show the student experience/life on campus that the CMU website doesn’t show?
- If I’m using audio for virtual explanations, is it too disconnected from speaking to an actual person and how does it play? Should it be played out loud of through earphones? How many people are listening to it?
- How do I make this experience more physical and memorable? How do I make this app act as a peripheral to the experience of touring through campus?
- Does this app take into account of different demographics (ie. prospective undergrad/grad students, admitted students, prospective faculty)?
- How does this app accompany people that deviate from the given tour path?
