I have a different take. I don’t think Pete’s resume is significantly thinner today than Obama’s resume in 2007.
Obama had his eloquent Purple America speech at the 2004 convention; Pete speaks eloquently about his faith. Both had outstanding academic credentials.
But is mayor that much lighter weight than first term senator?
What disqualifies Pete, for me, is what disqualifies “centrist” corporatist Democrats. It is what disappointed me when Obama turned away from his community organizing experience and appointed Rahm Emanuel his first Chief of Staff. It is a willingness to run to a “center” that excludes policies that are most needed by the working class of all races, genders and affections. And, moreover, to actively work to silence or discount proponents of those more progressive policies.
I don’t know. Maybe this is my white privledge talking. I hope not. What am I missing?
