I was at the Tokyo Game Show 2022.
It was everything you could imagine from an event that attracts players and developers, along with some of the biggest names in gaming. There were so many exciting reveals, both from the indie space and the AAA realm. I’m a massive video game fan and though I don’t get the same amount of free time as I once used to, I still like to know what is happening in the industry. I did want to try out God of War: Ragnarok, but the line was nearly 2 hours long and I really did not have all that time to spend on waiting. I was also excited for Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, a fantasy soulslike RPG (I love soulsborne games in general), but never got an opportunity to try it out as well. Again, I had little time to spend on video games.
Especially when I was there to meet some friends and colleagues from Bandai Namco.
You read that right.
I’m talking about the same Bandai Namco that created one of this year’s massive successes, Elden Ring along with some of the most popular games in the world like the Dark Souls series, the Tekken franchise, sleeper hits like Scarlet Nexus and well, I could go on really.
In case you were wondering, I was right in their offices, which in itself is an absolutely spectacular place to behold. It was a nerd’s paradise, filled with iconic representations from the rich history that Bandai Namco has enjoyed through decades of work in video games.
My reason to visit Bandai Namco wasn’t to admire the fascinating sights, though that was a pleasant side-effect of the trip. No, my real reason was to talk to industry veterans, gaming professionals, and legendary developers.
Why?
Simple. I wanted to one day feature my game on a game show. It didn’t matter which one, but I simply wanted to have a booth for Apollumia.
I wanted players to come and experience a game that my team and I built, and one that would allow players to truly engage with an experience unlike any other.
But to do that, I needed to understand the fundamental pillars of creating a game. You see, I am under no illusion to consider myself the best. I believe in the idea that one can always learn and if there are ways to do that, especially from experts, then I rather do it and use that to improve the final product, than allow myself to ignore the opportunity.
Then again, it wasn’t just the opportunity to learn something that propelled me towards the offices of Bandai Namco.
You see, I was given the rare privilege of accessing a unique talent pool, and I wanted to make use of that advantage for Apollumia’s game. Not a lot of developers can claim to enjoy that benefit, and I wasn’t about to let this gift slip through my fingers. I knew incredibly talented people and I wanted them to become part of Apollumia. I wasn’t kidding around when I said that I wanted Apollumia to be an experience unlike any other. Those weren’t idle words. I meant it and I’m going to use every single advantage I have to make that happen.
Additionally, I was also to talk about a unique partnership opportunity between Apollumia and Bandai Namco. Now for the sake of confidentiality, I am not allowed to reveal too much. But let’s just say that there is a unique idea that I want to explore. What better way to do it than to join hands with a giant in the gaming industry?
I know you are curious to know about what transpired in the offices of Bandai Namco. But I truly respect the folks over at the company, some of whom I know personally, just like the respect and friendship that they extend towards me. For that reason, I cannot reveal anything until the moment something becomes official.
Until then, keep a lookout on the Apollumia page. We have our own massive announcements to make.
Who knows? One day you’ll catch us at a game show. When that day comes, we can’t wait for you to experience this world.
In the mean time, here are some more glimpses from TGS 2022.
