The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has officially adopted Wellvis’ COVID-19 Triage Tool as a means to amplify its screening and surveillance efforts. It is accessible via https://selfassessment.ncdc.gov.ng/

The Wellvis “COVID-19 Triage Tool” uses responses to clinically and epidemiologically-relevant questions to categorise users into low, medium and high risk, with each risk category being educated on the appropriate next steps as described by the NCDC.

Since the outbreak of COVID-19 and its subsequent spread around the world, we have worked on sensitizing and helping the public understand what is going on and what to do to be safe and to minimise their chances of getting infected.

However, in March 2020, when it became apparent that it was within our borders here in Nigeria, we increased the dissemination of messages on preventive measures from the Ministry of Health via various digital media channels and then built a simple tool that could help the general populace identify their risk of contracting COVID-19, educate them based on the outcome and provide an avenue to self-report/escalate their case to relevant public health authorities or to contact a verified health professional for quick decision making and actions.

The Wellvis COVID Triage tool has helped to reduce the number of unnecessary and curious calls to disease control hotlines, thereby allowing persons who have been exposed reach the disease control authorities faster. Overall, it is useful for quick risk assessments, education, and decision making on COVID-19 by the users.

At Wellvis, we are building a comprehensive telehealth solutions platform for Africans, therefore along with our telemedicine offerings, we will continue to find ways to leverage feature phones and smartphones alike to provide and improve access to health services and products.
