Configure Alphanumeric username for your Asgardeo organization.

To enable users to log in with a custom alphanumeric username instead of an email address within your Asgardeo organization, please follow the steps provided below:

1. Access the Asgardeo Console and Navigate to the Manage section.
2. Navigate to the Account Login section.
3. Click on the Configure button to access the Username Validation page.
4. Within the Username Validation page, select the Alphanumeric option.
5. Configure the desired minimum and maximum length for the usernames.
6. Finally, click on the Update button to save the changes.

By following these steps, you will successfully change the username type for your users, allowing them to log in with custom alphanumeric usernames.

Before configuring the username as an alphanumeric username, please take note of the following important information.

Even if you modify the username to accept alphanumeric characters, please be aware that the email attribute will still be mandatory in the user profile by default. If you wish to make the email attribute an optional field, you can do so by following the steps outlined below.

1. Go to the Manage section and select Attributes.
2. Under the Manage Attribute section, click on Attribute title.
3. Untick Make this attribute required in user profile checkbox.
4. Save the changes.

If the Make this attribute required in user profile is not modifiable, then you must have enabled the account verification at the self registration. In order to enforce account verification during self-registration, it is necessary for the email attribute to be mandatory in the user profile. Hence, if you wish to make the email attribute optional, you will need to disable account verification. To accomplish this, please adhere to the steps outlined below.

1. Navigate to the Manage section and select Self registration from the left menu.
2. Click on the Self registration title.
3. Untick Account verification checkbox.

If you make the email attribute optional and user has not configured for email address in his profile, then following features will be disabled for the user.

• Email Notifications
• Password recovery
• Authentication with Magic Link, Email OTP
