Not all GE crop research is funded by Monsanto. The problem is regulatory hurdles are so expensive that often such a company is the only one that can afford it. Public research has created gluten free wheat in Spain and allergen free peanuts in the US. But because of the fear-mongering nobody is willing to grow and sell such products. We need to separate “Monsanto” from the discussion so we can actually use such public research.
One of the most successful GE crops out there is the disease resistant papaya in Hawaii.
