Unlike 1920, though, the new president could effectively end the world for human habitation at its current scale. It is now technologically feasible for that to happen, and it was not so in 1920. In fact, there are at least two routes to that end that are available, and the slow option of increasing greenhouse gas production is one the incoming president has pledged to pursue. The fast option of deploying our stockpile of nuclear weapons could be done under various scenarios of intention and incompetence.
