I am a middle-aged black woman who attended the D.C. Women’s March with women of color and white women who are both friends and family. I did NOT experience this at the march. Her perspective is not reflective of mine, but there are many, many diverse opinions and experiences among women and we all have the right to express our thoughts. There is a legitimate and longstanding set of challenges represented in the differences and disconnection between the white women’s movement and the needs/priorities of women of color. That is a larger, multi-generational discussion. However, on Saturday, for me, we united as one — not just women, but men, families, the LGBGTQ community, and so many others. It was an unforgettably moving experience for me.
