Slow Dancing in a Burning Room
I chose to blog about this song because John Mayer is a very popular artist as well as this song. This song doesn’t have an official music video by John Mayer but I chose a video someone made to the song the link is here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RV7s8IxUrf4. The song itself to me describes the crumbling relationship of two people that were once very in love with each other. However, they’re choosing to ignore what is happening to their failing relationship. I think this song is popular because it is relatable to broad range of ages. Relationships and how people handle them obviously are different for everyone but there’re similarities for many, mainly being able to call a quits on a relationship. Some people, including myself, have a hard time leaving someone they’ve been in a relationship with for a long time even when they know it’s unhealthy. I think this is because once someone has bonded so much with someone they almost feel like one person and feel like no matter how bad things get and how much someone hurts them they can’t leave their other half. The music video was low quality but since it wasn’t a professional video that isn’t surprising. Since it wasn’t professional I don’t know if the little things I noticed had meanings or if I just put meaning to them myself. Towards the beginning at 57 seconds she was putting leaves back on a tree like she didn’t want summer to end but I got the deeper meaning that she didn’t want her relationship to end. Other than that, most of the video was just clips of her which seemed to me like happy memories of her that the guy had which matched with the song because even though their relationship was failing he chose to think about the happy parts whiched prolonged the break up.
