Sadomatist Interviews: Tre Six (Skitzo Mind)

The cities that get the most attention in Texas are Houston and Dallas. You’re from Laredo. A lot of people don’t really know about your side. Talk about how it was growing up and what the city means to you.
Yeah that’s very true alot of people dont know about us except on documentaries about drug cartels, but yeah the city is chaotic yet peaceful not much of a rap scene down here but I’m changing that alone with others down here mane but it’s very Mexican based in culture a lot of drugs and violence but in between all that it’s fun at times, not much to do except get fucked up or do fucked up thangs unless you working a regular job. We don't have any big influences in the rap community like Houston or Dallas that we can look up to except kingpins and cartels so I incorporate that a lot in my music, it’s our culture, its what we live and know, but the city and I have a love, hate relationship. I love my city and represent my city to the fullest even though I really don’t get no love from my city music wise cuz there a lot of hate in my city so its complicated, but I’m actually from a little town 12 miles south of Laredo called Rio Bravo, still the same county but its a whole other world, it’s a crazy place to grow up in the Rio grand is 3 blocks away from my house so a lot of activity happening, but I hope to shed light on my city mane and hopefully be an influence for other artist in my city like how other rappers in the bigger known cities like Houston and Dallas do.
Growing up, what did you listen to and who influenced you to rap the most?
I grew listening to metal and rap a lot due to my brother Chris who was a rapper himself and a dj to this day mane but I grew up with 60’s and 70s rock because of my mom, but I was listening to a lot of korn, lamb of god, system of a down and static x at the same time with a lot of the rap music coming out from the 90s and early 2000’s. The artist who influenced me this most I would have to say would have been lord Infamous, koopsta knicca, playa fly, mr tinimaine, mr doctor, brotha lynch hung, snoopdogg, the geto boyz, gravediggaz, black moon, the pharcyde and hieroglyphics.
How long have you been rapping?
Rapping I’d say about 9 years, but taking it serious mane…about 6 I would say mane.
You normally release your tapes on cassettes. Talk about how you got into that and the importance of it.
Yeah its very important to me I’m a 90s baby and I like to keep the 90s feel in music alive, it adds to the nostalgia of the whole underground so I gotta bust em on tape mane, but I’m working on vinyls and CD will come soon too tho.
Where can people find your projects? What would you consider your favorite tapes that you’ve recorded in your career?
Shyt mane you can find my stuff on soundcloud or YouTube I’m not really in to social media I really like to keep it underground, but I’m working on putting it on all major platforms, but my favorite projects? Damn that’s hard honestly but it would have to be this one that was release but never got attention which is called “diable vagabundo” but I really like “ the devil’s playground” and “on lock down” I wrote both those tape in jail during my time locked up, but white noise seems to be getting the most attention so I guess that one but honestly I love all my project they represent different moment of my life I was going thru so they a certain significance to em.
How did Playa Made Records and TPK come about?
Damn good question, well TPK started with my and icemane, and it stands for “Tha Pentagram Klan” or “Texas Playas n Kings” it was originally called “killer techniques” but we got locked up for some shyt mane and while I was locked up I thought about a new name that really represents us artists and who we were plus we had already been known as tpk it used to be like a little group of people mane kinda like a gang you feel me, we’re very Infamous everyone knew about us mane cuz of the fucked up shit we would do at parties mane and when I was thinking of the new name I thought of the pentagram Clan cuz the Five Points in the pentagram represent it the area code we mane from which is 956 but we always added the 66 so It tied all together and when I read the first letter of each word from the name it read to tpk so it kind of just felt right to use tpk cuz we already known in our city as tpk but playamade records came to be because I have formed several groups before called “Armageddon Armada” the other “Da2thickclique “ which both included various artists from Laredo and from outside of Texas some of the people were Ricky Lagoon and ryan maxwell from casket and we had Superior rapso we had a lot of different styles and different characters but you know sometimes you realize some people are fake, mainly people for my city but when I got locked up again I saw their true colors so I put an end to that real quick, but I still wanted to make a group I felt like I could do something with other people so I was with Iceman talking to him about a group I wanted to form but this time with serious artist and we already had people for it but we didn’t have a name and I wanted the name to represent what we were about our business how we handle things so me and Icemane were just discussin about it mane we always mentioned playas you know that we’re players mane and i have a philosophy for being a player in the how to be a player and how players act, maneuver so I told him what he thought about playamade and it stuck mane so we ran with it and slowly you know we started adding new people to the group that appeal to what we thought was player made material and it just became one family and we just solid it now.
You are also part of Most Hated Records. How did you end up being part of that collective?
That is a wild story actually, so I was working in Iowa and icemane had already been going to Fort Worth doing shows and he met these dude mane, so I went from Iowa to a show in Fort Worth and met these dudes for the first time and perform mane, I ain’t really get to talked to them to that much to be honest, I was tired from driving like a 18 hours just to go make that show Mane but I ended up coming back to Texas Icemane got another show over there and I went with him cuz I was performing too and that’s where ingot to know them all for the first time and we just clicked real fast plus the shit we went thru at that show to make it happen was a night to never forget mane, the damn show almost didn't happen but that’s another story. So me and Iceman are some of the oldest members in our groups age-wise and I saw a lot of myself in these artists and the talent so I started to get to know them and mane we just clicked mane after that we just kept working and talking with each other little by little like became like a family it almost seemed like I was already part of most hated and we just made it happen.
How did you get your names (Tre Six & Skitzo Mind)?
Well i started off as skitzo mind first, and I got the name skitzo cuz I was known for cutting people and doing crazy thang in my neighborhood so they called me Loco but i didn't like it so they wanted to call me psycho but it sounded cliché and I told em skitzo and it stuck mane, I didn't spell it like how its spelled now back then that changed when I hear Bushwick Bill’s song “skitzo” and I kept spelling It like that mane, but Tre six I came up with in jail, because there was already some dude name skitzo and when you would search for my music his would pop out so it decided to change it to where i would stand out the only thing was a lot of people knew me as skitzo mind for years so I just put em together cuz I’m called both now depending on who it is and how long they’ve know me.
Any upcoming tapes you working on? Who would you want to collaborate with in the future?
Yeah mane I got 3 tapes coming dropping back to back, I got a g funk tape, a boom bap, tape and a trap tape so that shyt finna be wild, but atm I’m work with the people I’ve been wanting to work with, I guess as far as working with other people I’d like to work with more producers mane I don't stick to just one style so I gotta have diversity in beats and that means working with a lot of different producers.
You can do “dark” music but you also have the ability to make g-funk, boom bap, and even trap. Do you think being able to express your artistry in any form is essential?
Oh always! I love music in general mane I don't like to stick to one sound, every different style has a different feel that expresses the different aspects of who I am mane and what I’ve gone thru so plus I like diversity I don't see my self as a rapper more of an emcee. I evolve my craft and if I wanna hear a g funk song or a boombap song, ain’t no body else doing it so I just do it my self cuz that’s what I wanna hear and I have the skills to do it and I know there’s people who fell the same about wanting to hear something besides the typical stuff I know people like diversity so I give it to em, plus mane ain’t to my trust doing that usually they stick to one sound and ride that out, not me.
As an occultist, it’s always interesting to see rappers reference it in their music. Your music tends to delve into that. What’s your view on the occult and spiritual matters in general if you don’t mind?
Well I’ve always been interested in occultism and mysticism because of my Mexican culture that has a lot of spiritualism in black magic, and white magic
It’s in our culture like praying altars to saints and devils or la Santa Muerte. Me myself. I am a Luciferian so I learned a lot of that type of stuff mane, so I reference it a lot in my music. To me music is like a spell it can hypnotized you without knowing it, it can make you feels certain ways mane I put my energy into my music so you can feel it too, it’s almost like my energy possesses you for that moment, so I think music, spiritualism and occultism go hand and hand.
Playa Made Records do shows and from what I hear, y’all do good. Do you have any experiences you would view as the best at one show? Will there be any shows before the year ends or in 2020?
The one that stand out the most for me is the one when I met got to really meet the majority of most hated because that shyt was wild did alot of cocaine got buck af and mane just everything that happened because we got to fort worth like about an hour I think before the show was gonna, the venue canceled on us last minute cuz it was being renovated and it was clean, but we showed up told em we would clean the venue, so we did and got it rolling, but then we had no mixer or speakers, finally we got em but we ran into 2 or 3 more problems so it felt like every time we were gonna start the show something would happen bit we kept our head up and made it happen after all and we got BUCK mane the night was wild me can icemane we fucked up from when we left Laredo till we got back so that one was definitely the most memorable and best one for me but we don't have anything set for the end of most definitely expect shows from playamade in 2020 end after that mane we ain’t stopping, we just getting started.
Your view on the underground? Anybody you believe doing their thing at the moment that needs more recognition?
The underground is diluted with people who bring nothing new to the table and a bunch of wanna be fakes but I feel like it’s like that anywhere but the real ones prevail and stand out so I pay no mind to it honestly, I just do me mane but I think there quite a few people and groups that need more spot light like cvsket records, krugerset, lil boodang and a few of the people in playamade as well. We too slept on but we changing that, believe me.
Any last words?
Yeah, shouts out to all my supporters, thank yall and shouts out to my people, Playamade records, Mosthated records Cvsket records, shouts out to my city Laredo, texas 95666 and expect for big thangs from me playamade records and most hated records.
