Maira-ira beach in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte

If you’re looking for ideas for your next vacation, how about going to an unspoiled beach with clear blue waters that’s not as commercialized as other famous destinations like Hawaii or Boracay? Yes, I’m talking about Pagudpud’s beaches in Ilocos Norte, Philippines.

I recently had a road trip to the North (think Vigan and Laoag) where I had the chance to visit the underrated but pristine Maira-ira beach in Pagudpud. It was originally not part of our plan but my aunt suggested to drop by Hannah’s Beach Resort. Thank goodness she did because the beach-front resort truly is a sight for sore eyes.

Pagudpud’s Maira-ira beach is like Boracay’s White Beach but its sand is not as powdery fine as Boracay’s. However, its landscape has a more Hawaiian feel to it because of the surrounding mountains framing the beach. Simply stunning. On this post, I’ll share 5 ways to spend your time in Pagudpud and some useful things to know.

1. Obviously, swim in the beach.

Let’s go to the beach each, let’s go get away…♪ ♫

Who wouldn’t want to dip their toes in the cool water especially when it looks like this:

2. Fly like Superman, zipline-style.

Brace yourself for spectacular views while zipping through Hannah’s zipline over open water. I think it was around 700 or 900PHP to ride this. Watch me go gaga over the beautiful azure waters while having my Supergirl moment:

3. Ride an ATV by the sea.

If you suddenly have a need for speed, this is a great way to get an adrenaline shot. My little brother certainly enjoyed this.

4. Get some street food to beat the heat.

I tried some yummy ice scramble for only PHP20 (PHP25 if it’s a large size). I always love the refreshing sweet milky taste of that dessert! They also sell mangoes, coconut drinks and others. I was too hungry to take any food pictures.

5. Do water activities like riding a banana boat.

The resort offers plenty of activities to do for a price.

Where to stay:

How it works:

There is a 50 pesos per person entrance fee. It’s cheaper for children but I don’t remember the exact fee.

Food and Transportation:

This site has detailed directions on food and transportation. We just drove there and asked around for directions. It is tricky to find the place. When you see a huge rock welcome sign, notice that there’s a faded imprint of the name of Hannah’s Beach Resort. There is a ramp that leads to the strip where the the beach and resorts are.
