I think your last set of comments are trending into what really matters. Much of these sort of analogies, and even the discussions as a whole, are worded for the people who already get it. It’s not approachable to the target person.
Let’s use the term rape culture as an example. When you say that, I know what you mean, and so do many others. But nobody who needs convincing sits around thinking, “I am a part of rape culture.” It’s an instant turn off to them.
If we are more empathic towards the part of society we hope to influence, if we put things in their terms and meet them as they are, we have a much better chance of changing things for the better.
