Little. Blue. Dot.
The election story last night may come down to the little blue dot in Nebraska.
In 2020, then Vice President Biden defeated President Trump in the Second Congressional District of Nebraska. The campaign wants to do it again.
No wonder Republicans, including former President Trump, tried to drastically change voting laws in Nebraska in the last minutes of the 2024 legislative session.
Last night, the Second Congressional District saw moderation. In the Republican primary for Congress, Congressman Don Bacon trounced his GOP primary opponent. While Rep. Bacon isn’t a moderate compared to standards decades ago, he certainly appeared moderate
With national polls showing a tight race, and most swing states doing the same, some say the election could come down to the little blue dot.
In fact, last night’s presidential primary results shoudl give caution to former President Trump who only got 80% of the vote of the statewide with Ambassador (ret.) Haley receiving almost twenty percent. Trump’s performance was worse in both the First and Second Congressional Districts of the state.
In order to win the Second District, a more robust ground game is going to be needed. Voters know who the candidates are. They likely have a preference set. Ensuring Democratic voters turnout, who currently have a registration advantage (although a substantial number of independents are registered) could produce the results needed for a second Biden victory.
