A universal communication system for the digital asset era

Satoshi Nakamoto’s message in Bitcoin’s genesis block

Just for fun, let’s do a mental exercise.

Imagine you are Satoshi Nakamoto and, for whatever reason, you finally decide to put an end to our silence and talk to the world; but you still want to keep your anonymity. Which system or platform would you choose?

The most coherent way to do it now could be to use Bitcoin, just like about 11 years ago in the image above. Of course, to prove that we are the real Satoshi we would use the same wallet with which we mined the first ever Bitcoin block. Needless to say, we would use all necessary measures and techniques to prevent anyone from tracking us.

But that is not enough. It is 2020, and Bitcoin’s popularity and adoption has increased immensely in the recent years. This time we would need more than a “graffiti” kind of communication with our audience. Ideally, we would need an instant bidirectional communication tool which allows us to directly text with anyone we want, as much as we want, anytime.

What would that tool be? We could of course use platforms like Twitter and upload a cryptographic proof of our identity to our user profile description. But using a system controlled by a corporation or a government for this purpose is not something Satoshi would do, for obvious reasons…

Any ideas?

Inspired by this technical challenge, we created WhaleChat, an app that allows anyone to communicate directly with the owner of any cryptocurrency address. It does so in such a way that every message is cryptographically linked to the owner’s address, proving its authenticity.
