Facebook Cracks Down on Static Images as Video and Fake Video Play Buttons with New Algorithm Update

Inside Reddit’s grassroots version of the pivot to video

Reddit is releasing a video-uploader tool that lets its users share videos from their personal libraries directly on the platform instead of having to post links or embeds from other social networks.

The tool is part of an effort by Reddit, which recently raised $200 million — at a $1.8 billion valuation — to get deeper into video, and the ad dollars associated with it, with help from a new video product team.

Facebook’s new tools could make influencer marketing more expensive

With the launch of new controls and capabilities to help manage influencer marketing campaigns. Brands can now boost posts from a creator’s Page when the influencer gives them permission to, and the targeted audience will see the post as originating from the influencer rather than the brand.

Facebook launches Colorful Balloons app in China

Colorful Balloons appears to mimic the look and feel of Facebook’s Moments app, which allows users to share photos with friends and family members. Rather than interfacing with Facebook, the app works with the country’s biggest social network, WeChat.

Snapchat ‘will overtake Facebook among US teens.

Use of Facebook among Americans aged 12 to 17 will fall 3.4% to 14.5 million this year, according to data from eMarketer — while 15.8 million in the same age group will use Snapchat.

Apple Sets Sights on Original Content

Apple is budgeting roughly $1 billion to invest in original video content in 2018. According to The Wall Street Journal, the investment could result in as many as 10 new shows.
