The biggest television shows used to premiere in the fall. We got 20 or 30 episodes, and we spent all summer watching previews for everything on both network and cable TV. Then they started holding those shows for January, and now it’s March where the biggest shows debut, often only eight to 13 episodes each, just enough to hold our attention before a long summer. Game of Thrones is back in less than two weeks; Billions is already here. Spring TV is where it’s at in 2019.

But in the era of Peak TV, there’s always something else to watch, and spring TV gives us plenty of options. There are new game shows like Mental Samurai and Million Dollar Mile. There’s the latest NBC family tearjerker The Village, FX’s prestige hit Fosse/Verdon, ABC’s spies-with-chemistry dramedy Whiskey Cavalier, and Michael Schur’s newest comedic endeavor Abby’s.

And really, who has time to figure out if all these shows are worth our precious time and energy? I do, that’s who. I took a look at 12 new network and cable TV shows and gave a quick preview and and whether any of them are worth watching — and some of them are! All times listed are Eastern. I trust you can find past episodes online and catch up as needed.
