Marley K. I have a perfect example of how our interests are ignored. I am an educator of over 22 years. I’ve worked with high poverty schools all my career. I’ve witnessed the damage wrought on black kids.
In my school district only 55 percent of Blacks graduate. 45 percent don’t get a diploma. It’s in the data screaming look at me.
No one in this school district talks about this. It’s not on anyone’s lips but a few like me. I draw attention to it as often as I can. However the top guys say nothing- crickets.
The overall rate is 66 percent. The gap is 11 percent. Our top leadership is white and over 85 percent of the teachers are white. Black teachers are like unicorns.
I leave you with this: if it were white kids not graduating at that rate the alarm would be sounding and the army on the way. But it’s Black kids and they are being thrown away into the rubbish bin of I don’t give a damn.
No one cares for us. We must care for ourselves.
