Hey Neil. Thank you for the reply. The non abrasive approach you took here is much more welcoming. I think that’s where I get turned off… the whole “white privilege” thing gets to me because I had to work hard to survive. And I have been subjected to racial violence. So it’s difficult for me to sympathize when I’m told that my victimhood doesn’t matter, or that I must just shut up and listen. Or when I’m called a racist just for asking legitimate questions or for challenging the victimhood arguments. It only puts me on defense and pushes me further away from ever wanting to sympathize or understand.

With that said, I do agree with you that the black community have been dealt a bad hand and still have disadvantages in certain aspects. However, I do think that if a black man from Chicago can make it to president of the United States, it’s hard to imagine why anyone can’t escape their situation with a $50 bus ride.

While I will never have white guilt for something I never took part in, I will try to be more receptive to the things you mentioned. Thanks for the conversation :)
