On The Road: Missoula

Missoula is home. It’s where my family is, where my business is, and where the Williams family dog is. We didn’t have to hit the road for very long to get out and hear from Missoulians about their priorities for our next Governor — we just headed down the street.

With huge thanks to John and Linda Torma, my team and I had the chance to meet with countless folks who headed over to the Torma’s on a Monday night, ready to protect and defend the Montana we all love so much.

Speaking to folks at the Torma’s!

Many thanks to the folks who came out to talk about the challenges our state faces and the great questions on prescription drug prices, combating the threats against our public lands, and how we’re going to beat Greg Gianforte next November. We face some real challenges — and we need to elect a Governor tough enough to face them head on, and protect our Montana values.

As a businesswoman, I know full well what it means to bring folks together to solve problems, while protecting our bottom line. Our next Governor must be able to handle million dollar budgets and building her team just like I do in my business every day — and they have to do it all while protecting and defending the Montana values that run deep within us. I’m ready for the challenge, and it’s the folks like those who came out on Monday who are going to get us there.

The next day, we headed over to the Montana Lodging and Hospitality Association’s annual conference, and met with folks from the hospitality industry throughout the state.

Tourism in this state doesn’t grow by accident. It’s the hard work of the folks at the MLHA that ensures our hospitality and tourism industries remain strong — and that our Montana values are reflected in every visit somebody makes to the Last Best Place.

Out of state tourists spent over $3.7 billion last year, supporting jobs and financing our National Park services, visitor bureaus, and our General Fund. When tourism in Montana is strong, we all reap the benefits — but we can do more.

As Governor, I’ll use my experience as a businesswoman to make sure we’re not only supporting our hospitality industries here in Western Montana, but also growing the tourism economy throughout our state, from Missoula to Miles City. I’ll treat our public lands like the economic engine they are, fueling 70,000 jobs, sustaining our tourism and hospitality industries, and incentivizing more than $7 billion in consumer spending every year.

My parents taught me that being a Montanan was a privilege — but that it’s up to every generation to fight for it.

Alongside the folks I met in Missoula — whether from just around the corner from my house or from the far corners of our state — I’m here to fight for it. Join us at whitneyformontana.com.
