K-pop Artist Kai Turns Everyone into Fans With His Phenomenal Album
South Korean K-pop Artist Kai shows that it is quality over quantity in his phenomenal debut album, KAI.
Finally, Kai’s first self titled mini album is here, KAI. It is everything people would want to hear and more. South Korean K-pop artist Kai, also boy group member of EXO, released his music video “Mmmh” along with his sensational album. To say KAI is an amazing album is quite the understatement. The album was well thought out and beautifully created from its visuals, concept, and to the songs.
Kai has always been recognized for his impeccable dancing abilities and his strong, charismatic stage presence. Unless you were already a fan of his, one may not realized that he is quite the singer as well. Unlike group albums, Kai’s voice was able to shine through his album. KAI is the album that allows Kai to shine and be visible as a true music artist, a true performer.
“FILM: KAI” was released first where fans were able to hear snippets of each song, and many people were amazed at Kai’s voice. He was able to sing in ways that many people have never heard him sing before, especially in the track “Amnesia”, where Kai’s vocals shined the most. The film was constructed in a way that would tell a story, starting with “Hello Stranger” and ending with “Ride or Die”.
The visuals from the film were so amazing and fitting for Kai, since he is a performer. Instead of a simple visual with snippets of each song, Kai was able to dance to each song, and each song had a window to the next. This way of showing the music is the best for someone like Kai. Kai is not an ordinary musician. Dance fuels in his body and is as fluent as his Korean. Kai’s beautiful dancing skills and the way he embodies concepts gives a story-like quality. It is quite smart to construct the previews of the songs in this way.
The visuals from his film is so beautiful, especially in the part where we hear “Nothing on Me”. In another article, we talked about how “Mmmh” could be related to the yin yang. It is interesting to see that when we are going to the next window from “Amnesia” and “Nothing on Me”, in between that song is “Mmmh”.
As mention in a previous article, “Mmmh” is Yin, the feminine/moon principle. Interestingly, when we get to “Nothing on Me”, we see Kai dressed in white and another dancer, face covered, in almost all black. They worked with him, balancing him as if they were his other half. “Nothing on Me” visuals were absolutely breathtaking as well as the song.
So many reaction videos on YouTube have been made for “FILM: KAI”, and all are just amazed at Kai. As mention before, while being in a group, Kai’s vocals were very under appreciated.
As one reactioner said, “my favorite?!” It is hard to choose a favorite out of the craft that is KAI. Ever since “FILM: KAI” released, Kai as gain many new fans not as an EXO member but as Kai, the soloist.
Let’s dive into this music video. “Mmmh” was beyond everyone’s expectations. With level of detail, the visuals, and the way everything is so connect, “Mmmh” is a cinematic masterpiece. “Mmmh” has to be one of the best music videos and songs this year. The song has a nice rhythm to it. Usually, title tracks are not as good compared to the entire album, but “Mmmh” is equally as good as the other tracks on the album. The chorus is so addicting, you cannot help but to hum along with it. Kai definitely gave the same freshness we all craved in a industry that is over saturated with similar sounds. His heavily R&B influenced album is one of the best albums of this year. Not just in K-pop, but in music in general, KAI is the album that will suck you into listening to it non-stop.
KAI- The 1st Mini Album
KAI is a masterpiece of its own. Each track has its own personality, but all fit together. They are all equally good. “Nothing on Me” with its background vocals and falsetto, his voice as he goes in falsetto in “Amnesia”, the use of instruments and his melodic voice sound in “Ride or Die”, all of his songs sound so good for their own reasons.
“Hello Stranger”: It cannot help but to describe “Hello Stranger” as a song that has a smooth and rich sound. Kai’s voice is not overpowered by the music; you can hear his voice nicely. His voice is so pleasing to the ear.
“Nothing on Me”: This sounds gives a dream-like sound, it is very soft yet powerful. This characterization would describe Kai as a performer to be honest. The instruments and beats in the background, particularly the chorus is addicting. The background vocals towards the end, as Kai goes into falsetto was perfect!
“Amnesia”: Kai’s voice really shines in this song. His melodious voice is very pleasing to the ear. When Kai fits that falsetto, you cannot help but to feel like you are levitating off the ground.
“Ride or Die”: This song is a masterpiece. Words cannot describe how good this song is. It is giving an electro sound that is not overpowering, so you can still hear Kai’s voice. The pacing changes, but it makes it perfect. “Ride or Die” is a favorite by many. Kai’s harmonization really shows him as a strong singer.
“Reason”: Reason is one of the more upbeat songs within the album, and it stands out on its own just for that. As you listen, you cannot help but to get into it. The beat is not harsh; it still has smoothness to it.
These keys parts of each song makes it their own, being absolutely perfect in the album. Many people waited so long for this release. Kai shows that it is quality over quantity. This solo debut is phenomenal. Kai is amazing!
