Of late, people are taking up interesting hobbies that let them do something creative and this is why a lot of millennials are today interested in candle making. The candle making process is very interesting and you can use it to decorate your houses.

Most of the time people involved in the scented or normal candle making process commit certain mistakes that can ruin their candles. Here in this article, we will discuss the things you need to avoid during your candle making class.

Inadequate Quantity of Fragrance Oil

A common blunder committed by the majority of people is related to the amount of fragrance oil that is required for making scented candles. The most important ingredient in making scented candles is the fragrance oil and any mistakes while adding fragrance oil to your candle base is going to botch up the whole thing.

When you are attending your candle making class pay attention to the instructions being provided by the instructor as he would tell you the perfect ratio of maintaining wax to fragrance oil. At times, it is observed that people add too little fragrance oil and their candles don’t emit any aroma then how much effort you put in, it is not going to yield any results.

While adding too little scented oil has its pitfalls, adding too much oil can also affect your candles adversely because they are not going to burn properly if you are adding excess of scented oil. That is why it is very important to maintain the perfect ratio of wax to oil so that your effort doesn’t get wasted.

Improper Wick Size

Another factor that you need to guard against is the size of the wick that you are using in your candles as there is no one-size-fits-all policy over here and people often commit the mistake of using a single size of wick for all their candles. The wicks can affect the quality of your candle and you need to be very cautious about their usage.

As you are new to the scented candle making process, you must exercise abundant caution when choosing the wicks and shouldn’t get carried away by the various designs of wicks that you get to see. As a change even in small quantity in the fragrance oil can affect the way your wick burns.

Moreover, when making changes to the quantity of wax or the amount of scented oil they are adding to the mixture, they fail to take account of the wick and this causes problems at the end as the candle fails to burn or burns intermittently.

Not Waiting For Wax Solidification

Often it is noticed that people don’t wait for the wax in the jar to solidify before carrying on with the subsequent process. This is a grave mistake that you must avoid committing while attending your candle making classes and you must exercise an abundance of patience and wait for the wax to solidify.

Well, the wax takes a significant amount of time to solidify completely and you need to wait for it to solidify rather than rushing through the whole process. Furthermore, you need to make sure that the insides of the candle have also solidified because most of the time the wax will appear solid at the top but the bottom layers are still liquid.

The time taken for the wax to solidify will depend on the type of material you have used as wax. While soy takes almost 14 days to solidify, paraffin which is the most widely used wax material will take 3 to 5 days to solidify. A lot also depends on the amount of wax you are using & the instructor in the class will guide you through the process.

Not Testing When Required

Most of the time it is observed that people are not keen or forget about carrying a burn test which is very important. People have this notion in their mind that once the candles look good and smell nice their job is complete and they leave at that stage.

However, it is crucial that you burn a candle before you display it to your guests not just to make sure that it burns off but also to make sure they are safe for burning.

Finally

The above-discussed factors are some of the grave mistakes made by millennials when they are attending scented candle making classes. Keeping these things in mind when making your candles will definitely help you in crafting some of the best candles that anyone has ever come across.
