I poked around the online data about this, and while the chart is likely out of date, it seems like there is paid maternity leave (at 70%, according to Wikipedia) in the Czech Republic. It’s possible that having an international employer put your employee in some other category? I don’t want to try and pass myself off as an expert in international policy, I’m not: I just know the US is in a bad place.

In any case, I’m sorry that happened! Here’s hoping things go better for your employee next time, if there is a next time!
