The launch of the $WIFI token has fundamentally changed the way users interact with the WiFi Map ecosystem. Now, we’re rewarding contributors who help expand the network. Of the 160 million people who have downloaded the app, over 13 million have added new hotspots, verified credentials, and run internet speed tests.
As a reminder, we held the first in-app airdrop on 7 April, the day of the $WIFI TGE, bringing retroactive rewards to tens of thousands of historical contributors. This latest airdrop covers the period from 1 March to 30 April this year, with 350,000 $WIFI up for grabs among users of the new, $WIFI wallet-enabled version of the WiFi Map app.
Here are the rewards for the top contributors:
1. 3,000 $WIFI
2. 1,500 $WIFI
3. 1,200 $WIFI
But it doesn’t stop there. The user who placed tenth received an impressive 650 $WIFI tokens, while the 100th ranking contributor was awarded 106 tokens. Even the 1,000th most active contributor received 23 $WIFI, and smaller rewards have been issued to almost 39,000 active users on the platform. Those of you who added just one hotspot will find 7 $WIFI tokens waiting for you in the in-app wallet.
If you’re now hoping to make it to the top of the leaderboard next time around, you should know that it’s tough at the top. The highest-ranking contributor added 612 new hotspots to the app and ran unique speed tests on 229 hotspots, earning 62,345 points during the two-month period.
Congratulations to the winners and everybody who participated. Your $WIFI tokens have been added to your wallets in the app.
How are rewards calculated?
The total airdrop allocation is split among all eligible users, based on your your contribution level and a couple of other factors. The more you contribute to the app by adding new hotspots, updating and healing existing ones, and conducting speed tests, the more tokens you’ll receive. We also take a number of other factors into account, including the quality of the data you add, how long you’ve been a member, and your reputation score (this can change from one month to the next).
What can I do with my $WIFI?
The $WIFI token was created to bring utility to the WiFi Map community, and you’ll be able to use it inside the WiFi Map app as soon as you receive your first tokens. Here are a few things you can do with it right now:

- Receive 15% cashback when redeeming $WIFI for eSIM data, and 3% cashback when purchasing mobile data with fiat.
- Send a tip in $WIFI to the people who added your favourite WiFi hotspots to the platform as a way of saying thank you
- Top up your $WIFI balance using your bank card, deposit $WIFI tokens from outside the app, and view your transaction history.
How do I participate in the next airdrop?
It’s very simple: help to grow WiFi Map by building out our connectivity ecosystem of free WiFi hotspots. You can do this by adding new hotspots to the map wherever you are in the world, verifying that credentials for existing hotspots are correct, and running tests to check internet speeds. You can of course do a combination of all three activities, but we recommend being as active as possible in the app to increase your chances of winning a big haul of $WIFI, and adding WiFi where other people are likely to use it.
You don’t need to do anything special to participate. Just carry on contributing to WiFi Map, and check the in-app wallet after the next airdrop to see if you’ve won anything.
