From now on, every Wednesday we will be featuring a region with out-of-ordinary, or at times extreme vine growing conditions. The very first one is Laveaux since Wiine.me is a Swiss company catering exclusively for a Swiss market, which is why we’ve chosen very close to us area.
Lavaux is an area in the canton of Vaud. It comprised of terraced vineyards segregated by 250 miles of stone walls that date back to medieval times. 1,100 feet above the lake Geneva, and terraced over 40 levels, those are amongst the steepest vineyards in the world! Such peculiarities justify Lavaux’s UNESCO World Heritage distinction granted in 2007.
Forbes listed Lavaux as one of the most undiscovered wine regions in the World. National Geographic claims it’s a “must visit” in order to try its wine which soaks in “three suns”. They refer to the passing sun overheard, the lake’s reflection, and the heat held in by those ancient stone walls framing the vineyards.
