Looking back on what I have accomplished in this degree, I realize it is not all that much. I am most proud of my thirst to learn more to become a well rounded tool in the news room. As a storyteller I am at my best when I have a deep connection to the subject or the main focus of the story. Weather that be the people, the activity or lifestyle I am covering, I am at my best when I can relate to what I am covering. When I am challeneged or stumped I like to question the situation or problem at hand and try to think more than usual. If im not questioning a teacher or a person in charge I question the problem to try and think out as many different outcomes and scenarios as possible. To be succesful in this coarse and in this degree I need form you to converse with me about your experiences in the newsroom, both good and bad so i can better understand whatI am getting myself into. Id also like to talk to you about ways I can use this degree outside of the newsroom. As a reader I like to think that I am grammatically sound, as well as a good judege to determine if content is entertaining enough. As a writer I enjoy writing about my day to day encounters as well as creative writing pieces about adventure and triumph. I am curious to see what else I can acheive through this degree. If it is possible to grow out of the news room as a producer or editor or even a writer to try and explore my creative horizons. In this coarse I want to learn more about how I can help contribute to News7. I am most creative when behind the lens or when I am alone with my thoughts and my notebook. I have been taking photographs in my free time for 7 years and have written many stories both about my life and fictional adventures in my freetime since before then but not as frequently. I want you to know that I strive to do better in this major. I am very much looking forward to learning this semester in the newsroom and in my other coarses. I spent most of my adolescent years being somewhat of a part time delinquent and since I’ve arrived at Lyndon I have been making up for lost time by reading and writing on my own time more and more. You proposed really good questions for the class and I cant think of any you might have missed. In regards to the podcast, I thought they introduced some great observations about social media. One observation i enjoyed was the idea that peoples social media accounts are a series of the gems from their lives. No one talks about the inbetween days and moments therefore creating a thirst to have the most happy and well constructed social media acocunts. Jon Ronson states in the podacast “social media doesn’t have a sense of curiosity” which directly relates to the idea that everyone on social media only portrays the gems from their experiences.
