On Zen and Design

Design is messy.
Let it be messy.

Throw out your BFA.
Throw out your ‘process’.

Just do the work.
Do it now.

Sit outside and draw.
Make lists instead of drawing.
Make lists of the most important things.
Add stuff.
Remove stuff.

Don’t stop until…

“…there is nothing left to take away.”

If you don’t like it, draw it out again, but different.
Why don’t you like it?
Go look at something you like.
Draw that.

If it works, borrow and move on.
Just keep moving.

There’s a time for editing.
This isn’t it.

Free yourself from the shackles of your self critic.
Stop thinking, and start making.

By not thinking about the destination, you’ll get there much faster.
