I have also seen commentary and words of warning from more than a few people whose depth of experience far exceeds mine that the nature of a binding ritual, even with the intent of the one being put forth here, will inherently bind the caster to the fate of the person being bound, in one way or another. Which seems to imply that our strength will increase his, or that his fall will lead to ours, in turn.
Additionally, there are a few things about this that just feel … off, especially as a binding spell — (pushes witchy glasses up nose) For one, the inversion of the Tower card implies the persistence of a situation of anxiety and conflict, not the dramatic (though necessary) resolution of it. So it would make more sense to keep the Tower tarot card face-down, then flip it face up during that moment in the ritual, rather than invert it.
Now, I’ve seen some folks modify their plans to cast a banishing ritual instead, as well as the very old (and valuable) conversation of “we don’t hex / what you cast comes back on you” and that’s as may be — “Infinite are the arguments of wizards” and all …
However, beyond any magical equivalent of the “Do we punch nazis or not?” debate, what I’m most concerned about right now is “Is this whole thing a trap set by fascist occultists (who we all know are totally a thing) to actually empower their Turdlord?”
I haven’t seen the source document this is based on, and I have no idea who it’s coming from originally. I have no desire to cast aspersions upon the good intent of people who are desperately trying to fight back against the horror that they see rising, using whatever means are at their disposal, including mass ritual.
Ultimately, I believe intent is the greatest determining factor in magic, so if you want to do something like this to bind, banish, or otherwise foil Trump and his cohorts in their schemes, feel free. Maybe write your own ritual rather than get a recipe online. I think personalized magic is often most effective, and focused simultaneous intent is still focused simultaneous intent, regardless of liturgy.
However, the fact that right wing occult assholes do exist and may have combined troll-style “meme magic” with actual magic is something to keep in mind.
