My first web page, and the inspiration behind it.

In March, I started using Free Code Camp (FCC) to learn how to code and I recently completed my first FCC project. The requirement was to build a tribute page on similar to this.

I chose to feature Grace Jones on my page, because she’s boundary pushing, barrier breaking, rule bending, shape-shifting and genre defying. And inspired by her rule breaking persona, I took a few creative liberties with the design.

Like most kids who grew up in the late 90s to early and mid-2000s, I was into Aaliyah, Ja Rule, TLC, Usher, Jay-Z, and other artists who were burning up the charts on TRL.

But in my 20s, I started expanding my musical palate and gravitated towards artists like Prince, Lenny Kravitz, Erykah Badu, Bjork and Grace Jones; artists who push the envelope, are seemingly fearless, and champion individuality. I’ve always been struck by Grace Jones’ strong visual presence as much as by her music, so I thought it would be fun to showcase a little of that in my project.

As I’ve mentioned before, I’m going to share my work as I learn to code. So if you have any feedback and tips, reach out to me here or on Twitter.
