Are We Experiencing a Paradigm Shift in Hiring Practicing?

Hiring employees seems straight forward and has had a proven successful method for many years now. Employers start by identifying the position of need and then they create the job description and requirements. They take this information and send it to the newspapers, post it on job sites, then they hit the colleges and start using their established networks. This is a tried and true method that is suddenly becoming less effective at getting responses. What seems like all the sudden social media sites such as Instagram appear to be a much more successful method of connecting with protentional applicants and employees.

Finding success posting jobs on social media many benefits for the employer. First, most social media sites are free to use. Companies are always for ways to cut costs and the ability to find employees that will help grow your brand without having to pay for advertising the job is a huge savings. Another benefit is if the applicants have found your posting on a social media site that likely means they already follow the company, know what you do, and probably like it. This also means they will likely be that much excited to become a part of it. Social media sites can also act as a type of free, there is that word again, background check. Your potential employees openly post their life story which tells you what they do, where they’ve been, who they interact with, and possibly even a work history. This type of information is exponentially important to an employer. Lastly, your current employees act as advertisers of the company on social media sites. Current employees will post about their professional achievements and benefits of working with their company. This will also help attract potential employees.

I think that will take advantage of this method of promoting job openings. This will also start to change the way conventional job sites like monster.com or indeed.com do business. A negative side effect of this tactic will be he number of unqualified applicants that are showing interest in the position. This could provide added stress to your company’s HR team and potentially scare away qualified applicants if they see a large number of people showing interest in the position they may just move on to the next one.
