Unlearn

I had always thought I would have no reason to learn any SQL type database and just stick to MongoDB which seemed easy to me. You can call me lazy but I’d rather say I had fixed my mind to think a certain way and intentionally limited myself.

A few weeks ago, I was sent an email inviting me to the Andela boot camp(The 26th cycle). That email also contained a link to a study resource, to my surprise it was a NodeJS api tutorial with a PostgreSQL database, the first thing I did was to check if it was anything like MongoDB but it wasn’t. I had to learn something I’ve always been avoiding.

After about a week, I was sent another email that had a video on Growth Mindset attached to it. After watching the video, I discovered how much I limited myself and how many opportunities to learn and to grow I did not avail myself.

It seems simple but this experience made me realize something I’ve been missing, open mindedness and the will to learn at all cost. Since then I have decided to unlearn my previous habit and not to put a limit to what I think can or can not do.

Thanks for reading.
