LUKE: Yoda, I’ve been hearing a lot about this concept called “open-source” on the Internet. Could you tell me what that is?

YODA: Hmm, open-source you ask of, young Skywalker? A philosophy it is, of sharing and collaboration. Code like the Internet protocols, freely available for all to see, modify, and improve it is.

LUKE: That sounds fascinating. But what if people take advantage of that? What if they use it for the wrong reasons?

YODA: Hmm, a concern that is, Luke. But, remember, the Force also open to all it is. Good or bad, depends on the user it does. As with the Force, the user’s intentions define the outcome.

LUKE: You’re right, Yoda. I guess this has its roots in the vastness of the internet, making knowledge accessible to all.

YODA: True that is, Luke. Like a vast sea of stars, the internet is. Information, ideas, thoughts, freely flowing, available to all who wish to learn.

LUKE: So, you believe we should share our learnings with everyone? Is it an obligation?

YODA: An obligation, not in the way you think, it is. A responsibility, it is, like a Jedi’s responsibility to the Force. Share knowledge, we must. Help others grow, it does. Yet, with wisdom, this must be done.

LUKE: Wisdom?

YODA: Hmm, yes. Not all ready for certain knowledge they are, just as not all ready to wield the Force they are. Share, but with discernment. Guide, but do not impose.

LUKE: That sounds like a delicate balance.

YODA: A balance, indeed. Like the Force, balance in all things we must seek, Skywalker. Share knowledge, foster growth, but impose not. In this, the way of the open-source Jedi, lies.
